This jade carving centers on the poetic imagery of Chinese landscape aesthetics, blending the spatial rhythm of traditional Chinese gardens with the literati’s view of nature. Crafted from a single piece of Australian black-green nephrite jade, the mountain looms majestically with natural contours. Towering pines, winding cloud paths, and pagodas nestled among the rocks form a serene realm where "the scene is already formed before the viewer arrives."
The composition reveals rich layers: from bottom to top, one sees a stone path, pine forest, temple pavilion, and ancient pagoda — a vertical journey that draws the viewer upward. One can almost sense distant moonlight spilling over the forest, evoking a quiet and profound atmosphere. Though the moon itself is not depicted, the mood and lighting skillfully convey the theme of “moonlight shining on empty mountains,” inviting contemplation, immersion, and spiritual dwelling.
Han Chaoxing, a rising-generation jade artist from Zhenping, Henan, selected high-quality black-green nephrite from South Australia for this piece. The jade is known for its fine grain and rich, deep color. The artist expertly utilizes contrasts between the raw outer skin and polished surfaces to highlight the ruggedness of the mountain and the intricacy of the trees, enhancing the realism and dimensionality of the scene. Portions of the natural stone texture are preserved, echoing the original look of the rocks and expressing the Eastern philosophy of harmony between man and nature.

Estimated price for this piece by Han Chaoxing AUD$3,200 (RMB¥15,000)
