Black Jade Pixiu Sculpture by Zhu Dongwei

Carved from premium Australian black jade, this exquisite Pixiu (貔貅) embodies wealth, power, and protection. Revered in Chinese mythology as a mythical beast that wards off evil and attracts fortune, Pixiu is traditionally believed to devour gold, silver, and jewels, yet never expels them—making it a powerful symbol of wealth retention and prosperity.

This sculpture was hand-carved by Zhu Dongwei, an accomplished jade artist based in Zhenping, Henan, China. Zhu’s process begins with careful selection of high-quality jade, assessing the stone’s natural lines, clarity, and texture. The design is then outlined on the raw jade surface, as shown in the early-stage photos, balancing traditional symbolism with the stone’s organic shape. Every curve and detail is painstakingly refined, reflecting Zhu’s deep respect for Chinese craftsmanship and cultural heritage.

Finished with a rich polish that accentuates the jade’s depth and smoothness, this Pixiu sculpture is both a cultural treasure and a collector’s gem.

The legend of Pixiu (貔貅):

In ancient Chinese mythology, Pixiu is a celestial creature known to feast on gold and silver, never releasing what it consumes — making it a powerful symbol of wealth retention. Revered as the guardian of treasures, Pixiu is believed to ward off evil spirits and attract prosperity, making it an enduring companion for those who seek protection and fortune.
