A humble room does not confine the lofty mind—such is the realm of the noble

Jade Teapot Set – Inscription of the Humble Room

Crafted from Australian black jade, 《陋室铭》 is a refined teapot that pays homage to the classic Chinese prose "Ode to the Humble Room" by Liu Yuxi. The vessel features an elegant, round body with flowing calligraphy carved into the stone, reading “陋室铭” — a phrase that celebrates inner richness over outer splendor.

Teapot

  • Form and Aesthetics:
The body of the teapot is full and weighty, presenting a sense of classical elegance and simplicity.

  • Lid Design:
The teapot lid features a bas-relief pattern reminiscent of “green tiles and brick walls”, echoing the literary allusion to a humble yet cultured dwelling (“an unadorned chamber with spiritual richness”).

  • Spout and Handle:
The spout and handle are smoothly extended and elegantly curved, offering both ergonomic comfort and practical utility.

  • Material and Contrast:
Crafted from inky-black Australian nephrite jade, the piece is warm to the touch. The contrast between the textured brick relief and the silver-white calligraphy creates a striking black-and-white harmony, exuding scholarly refinement.

  • Cup

    • Shape and Structure:
The cup adopts a rare square form, with naturally converging corners and a balance of firm lines and soft transitions.

    • Material Texture:
The natural jade patterns are clearly preserved, with a slightly thickened and steady base that offers a comfortable grip.

    • Symbolism:
The square form implies the virtue of upright conduct (“being square and righteous”) and evokes associations with ancient ritual vessels, reinforcing the image of a gentleman with integrity and cultivated character.

The jade’s natural black-green tones complement the depth and humility of the inscription. When water is poured, the teapot becomes a poetic statement: that true value resides not in outward luxury, but in cultivated simplicity and inner contentment.
